The Lincoln College Softball team played two games at Iowa Wesleyan
on Saturday and lost them both. Lincoln dropped a close one in the
first game and was done in by one rough inning in the second.
In the opener, IWU grabbed an early lead by putting up three runs in
the bottom of the first inning. Lincoln chipped away at that lead
over the next few innings by holding IWU scoreless and scoring
single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to tie the score at 3-3.
Iowa was able to push one run across the plate in the bottom of the
fifth to reclaim the lead and shutout Lincoln the rest of the way
for a 4-3 win. Freshman Olivia Sanders (Clinton) pitched all six
innings for LC and suffered the loss.
In game two, Lincoln came out swinging in their first at bat and got
on the board first to take a 1-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the
second, Iowa would explode for six earned runs which put LC in the
position of having to come from behind again.

LC’s Kerstin Osborne (Lincoln), who pitched all six innings for LC,
would settle in after the rough second inning to hold IWU scoreless
the rest of the way. LC managed to score two more runs, but it was
not enough to stop Iowa from completing the sweep with a 6-3 victory
in game two.
Lincoln’s Ali Nowicki (Petersburg) had a good day at the plate for
the Lady Lynx. Nowicki had three hits and three RBI’s on the day.
Shortstop Melissa Benson (Morris) had one hit in each game.
Lincoln (5-21) will host Hannibal-LaGrange University for a
doubleheader on April 16th beginning at 2:00 PM.
