Kelly throws no-hitter as Mount Pulaski defeats  Springfield Lutheran 11-1
DeRight's Grand Slam leads the Hilltoppers offense

The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers hosted Springfield Lutheran on Monday afternoon at Veteran's Park and not only was the weather near-perfect, so was the pitching. 

 

Senior Todd Kelly dominated the Crusaders for five innings of no-hit baseball. In the first inning, Kelly allowed a walk that he undoubtedly would love to have back now.

The runner that reached on the base on balls, scored after two Hilltopper errors in the inning.

 

Mount Pulaski rebounded quickly to take a 6-1 lead in the second inning. The big blow here was a grand slam by senior Logan DeRight that scored four of the Hilltoppers runs.

Mount Pulaski just kept adding to the run total in each of the following innings.

 

The Hilltoppers put three runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning to 10-run rule the Crusaders. Jonathan Shehorn's grounder that scored two runs was the big hit in the inning.

 

Mount Pulaski earns the 11-1 win over Lutheran as Kelly goes the distance. Kelly allowed one run on no hits. He struck out eight batters and walked just one.

 

Kelly was also 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Mount Pulaski offense. 

 

Mount Pulaski improves to 13-3 on the season.
