Hannah (L) and Charley (R) took time from their busy schedules at LCU and dropped by the Lincoln Art Institute Thursday evening. It was their first visit. They cruised the installation and talked to the artists. The art they are standing next to is Leland Hahn’s “Heartland Sunrise.” They had a good time.

 

Logan County artists expressions on “Green” opens

[April 23, 2019]   LINCOLN - The themes of the monthly shows by Logan County Arts at the Lincoln Art Institute are chosen months in advance of the opening. This month’s theme “Green” which opened Thursday could not have been more appropriate coming as spring is greening up our environment.

Of course, “Green” can take on many meanings depending on a person’s feelings as this exhibit clearly demonstrates.

In Thursday’s show, green was evident in paintings about nature, and places in hell where those who are green with envy may end up. The artists were free to make anything they wanted with some corner of the piece at least referring to green.

How many varied uses of green can you come up with? Give me the green (money). That last boat trip in the storm left me green around the gills (no explanation needed). That last driver was really green (inexperienced). You get the idea. Well, the artists also expressed many and varied green definitions.

President John F. Kennedy said it best:

The Lincoln Art Institute calls forth the best of central Illinois art, and the large crowds that gather for exhibit openings attest to their appreciation of the local fine arts scene. The LAI has become the place to be on the second Thursday of the month.
