Mount Pulaski defeats Delavan 7-2

Mount Pulaski played at Delavan last Thursday and it was the Hilltoppers with the offensive explosion late in the game to take the 7-2 win.

Delavan saw a 2-0 lead disappear in the top of the fifth inning. The Hilltoppers tied the game 2-2 on an RBI single by Garrett Fitzpatrick in that fifth inning.

The Hilltoppers scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to take a solid 6-2 lead over the Panthers. Ben Fricke's two-run single in the top of the sixth inning gave Mount Pulaski the lead. Tanner Farris added an RBI single to make the score 5-2. The Hilltoppers added another run when Fricke scored as Grant Davis hit into a double play.

Mount Pulaski scored once in the top of the seventh inning when Jonathan Shehorn scored on an error.

The Hilltoppers' Drew Martin shut down the Panthers on three strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh inning and it was Mount Pulaski with the 7-2 victory. 

Logan DeRight earned the win for Mount Pulaski. He worked six innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits. He struck out six batters. 

Ben Fricke led the Hilltoppers at the plate. Fricke was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
