Mount Pulaski improves to 17-3 record with 4-1 win over Meridian

Mount Pulaski hosted Meridian on Monday afternoon despite some pretty wet weather conditions earlier in the morning. The Hilltoppers broke a 1-1 tie game in the third inning and ended up with the 4-1 win.

The Hilltoppers scored three runs off Meridian pitching in the third inning after Jonathan Shehorn singled to ignite the offense. Todd Kelly reached on an error after his hit rolled under the second baseman's glove. Shehorn flew around the bases and scored the go-ahead run all the way from first base on that error. An RBI single by Drew Martin stretched the lead to 3-1 in the inning. Martin came speeding home with the Hilltoppers fourth run of the game on a wild pitch. Mount Pulaski wins 4-1. 

Tanner Farris picked up the win for Mount Pulaski. Farris worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out eight hitters. 

Todd Kelly earned the save for Mount Pulaski. Kelly worked an inning and one-third, striking out two batters. 

Drew Martin led the Hilltoppers offense. Martin was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Mount Pulaski's season record improves to 17-3.
