Mount Pulaski crushes Southeast 9-1

[April 30, 2019] 

The Hilltoppers hosted Southeast on Saturday and with Drew Martin on the mound, the Spartans didn't have a chance. Martin shutdown Southeast for four innings, as he allowed just one hit and struck out eleven batters.

Offensively the Hilltoppers exploded early for runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

In the first inning, Logan DeRight and Tanner Farris each had RBI doubles. The Hilltoppers took a 4-0 lead when two more runs scored on wild pitches. 

In the second inning, Ben Fricke's two-run single gave Mount Pulaski a 6-0 lead.

In the fourth inning an RBI triple by Martin added insurance for the Hilltoppers. Martin would score on a wild pitch and the Hilltoppers lead was 8-0.

Todd Kelly's RBI single put Mount Pulaski up 9-0 in the fifth inning.

Kelly led the Hilltoppers at the plate. He was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI. 

Kelly also pitched two innings in relief, giving up one run on one hit and striking out four batters. 

Drew Martin was the winning pitcher for Mount Pulaski. 

Carter Spaulding took the loss for Southeast.
