Lincoln College Peer Mentors get an early start
Students on campus for training, stop by county fair

 

[August 15, 2019]  LINCOLN - Classes for most Lincoln College students won’t begin until the week of August 19, but a select group of students have been on campus undergoing training and taking part in team building exercises as they prepare for new roles as Peer Mentors.

The Peer Mentor program is an opportunity for outstanding sophomores, juniors and seniors to serve as resources and mentors to incoming freshmen.

Faculty and staff volunteered their time to help facilitate a number of sessions during the two and a half days of back-to-back intensive training. Sessions included a variety of team building exercises to give the mentors skills in a variety of areas, including interpersonal communications, leading groups, coaching students for academic success, cultural proficiency and influencing campus culture.

The Peer Mentor program is funded by Lincoln College’s Title III Grant and a collaborative effort coordinated by Tami Goodrich, Coordinator of the Academic Success Center, Zach Landers, Director of Student Engagement, and Crystal Wurth, Coordinator for the Freshmen Seminar Course.

After the intensive training, the students got a chance to relax a bit at the Logan County Fair, where they sampled fair food and toured the livestock barns, getting an insider look from fellow Peer Mentor and County Fair livestock exhibitor Jayden Lawrence of Beason.
