[August 16, 2019]    Mike Trout smacked his 40th home run and scored four runs as part of a 4-for-4 performance to lead the Los Angeles Angels to an 8-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Justin Upton also homered and drove in four runs for the Angels. David Fletcher added a two-run single.

Left-hander Andrew Heaney (2-3) allowed three runs and four hits over seven innings for the Angels. He struck out six and walked none.

Jose Abreu slugged two homers for the White Sox, who scored four runs in the ninth and brought the would-be go-ahead run to the plate before right-hander Hansel Robles struck out Ryan Goins for his 17th save.

Trout reached 40 homers for the second time in his career and is one behind his personal best set in 2015. It also represents the fifth 40-homer campaign in franchise history -- Troy Glaus (47 in 2000, 41 in 2001) and Albert Pujols (40 in 2015) produced the others.

Chicago right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (7-10) allowed five runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

The Angels moved ahead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Brian Goodwin walked and Trout singled to start the frame, before Upton drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Fletcher lined a two-run single to left to give Los Angeles a 4-2 advantage, and Luis Rengifo slapped a two-out, opposite-field single to left for another run.

Trout singled with two outs in the sixth and the inning remained alive when Chicago second baseman Yolmer Sanchez booted Shohei Ohtani's grounder. Upton made the White Sox pay by hitting a three-run, 412-foot liner over the fence in left-center off left-hander Josh Osich to make it 8-2.

Abreu hit his second homer of the game -- a 415-foot shot -- in the seventh for the White Sox to make it 8-3.

James McCann delivered an RBI triple in the ninth and scored on Eloy Jimenez's infield single. Robles entered and allowed a two-run, 382-foot homer to right by Welington Castillo as Chicago pulled within one. Sanchez then singled and Jon Jay grounded into a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error, but Robles then got Goins to end it.

The Angels manufactured a run in the first as Trout reached on an infield single, advanced to third on Ohtani's double to left field and scored on Upton's groundout.

Trout made it 2-0 when his two-out, 419-foot blast to left-center in the third. Trout belted a 2-1 changeup from Lopez that caromed off the rocks beyond the fence.

The White Sox tied it in the fourth as Tim Anderson singled with one out and Abreu hammered a 2-1 curveball 388 feet over the fence in left-center.
