Lincoln College Men’s Soccer Coach Ben Massena, who is set to begin
his 16th season at the helm of the Lynx soccer program, likes the
depth of talent he sees in this year’s squad.
“So far our preseason has been very productive,” said Coach Massena.
“The number of quality guys we have this year has allowed us to do
more in our preseason and they have pushed each other to excel.”
Coach Massena has added thirteen new players to complement the
twelve returning varsity players he has on his roster.
Three key returners for Lincoln include seniors Pierson Fleming
(Springfield), and the Roman brothers, Julian and Adrian of
Waukegan, Illinois. Fleming is a former National Junior College
All-American goalie who brings height and athleticism to his job of
defending the LC net. Julian Roman will resume his familiar spot as
a center mid-fielder and will once again take on the role of team
captain. Adrian Roman was the team’s leading goal scorer in 2018
from his position as an attacking mid-fielder. Roman found the back
of the net twelve times last season for the Lynx.
Lincoln has a talented crop of newcomers this year as well. One of
the standout additions to the team figures to be JUCO transfer Jesus
Reina (Venezuela).

Reina comes to LC by way of Parkland College where he was a two-time
All-Region selection for the Cobras as a forward. Another new player
to keep an eye on will be freshman Ivan Vlek from Bahia Blanca,
Argentina. Vlek is a speedy defender who should help shore up the
Lynx back line.
Coach Massena is confident that this year’s team can improve upon
last year’s record of 7-6. “We have added quite a few matches to our
schedule this year and I am looking forward to seeing how well we
can compete against some of the top teams in the NAIA,” said
Massena. “We are looking forward to having a fun season.”
Lincoln will open up their 2019 campaign on Saturday, August 24th
with a road match at the University of St. Francis in Joliet,
Illinois. Game time is 2:00 PM. For more information and a full
