Indians third baseman Jose
Ramirez was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a
broken hamate bone in his right hand.
Ramirez will be replaced on the roster by Yu Chang, who was pulled
from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers roster Saturday night as a
provisional big league replacement.
Ramirez, a two-time All-Star, bent in pain after he fouled the 2-0
pitch from Royals starter Glenn Sparkman. After getting checked out
by head athletic trainer James Quinlan and manager Terry Francona,
he was pulled from the contest and replaced by Mike Freeman, who
worked a walk.
Francona noted that Ramirez had been dealing with wrist discomfort
for a while prior to the contest. Ramirez, 26, is hitting .254 with
20 home runs, 24 stolen bases and 75 RBIs for the Indians this
season.
--The Chicago Cubs recalled utilityman David Bote from Triple-A Iowa
and placed left-hander Derek Holland on the 10-day injured list with
a left wrist contusion, the team announced.
Bote, who was demoted to Iowa on Monday, was summoned from the
minors after first baseman Anthony Rizzo exited Chicago's 7-2 loss
to Washington on Saturday with mid-back tightness.
The 26-year-old Bote is batting .257 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs in
106 games with the Cubs this season. Holland was on the receiving
end of a comebacker by San Francisco's Brandon Crawford during
Wednesday's game, a 12-11 win by Chicago.
--The Toronto Blue Jays activated veteran Clay Buchholz from the
10-day injured list and also got back fellow right-hander Ken Giles
from the paternity list in a flurry of roster activity in advance of
their game at Seattle.

The Blue Jays not only optioned right-handers Brock Stewart and
Justin Shafer back to Triple-A Buffalo, they also designated
right-hander Nick Kingham for assignment.
Buchholz, 35, had not pitched since May 5 at Texas because of a
Grade 2 teres major strain in his upper back/right shoulder.
Buchholz pitched six innings against Seattle, allowing two runs and
three hits. Giles threw a scoreless inning in his return.
--Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jeremy Jeffress was placed on the
10-day injured list with an ailing left hip, the team announced.
The Brewers called up fellow right-hander Ray Black to replace
Jeffress, who reportedly expressed discomfort after each of his last
three outings.
Jeffress has posted a 3-4 record with one save and a 5.02 ERA in 48
relief appearances this season. The 31-year-old was an All-Star last
season when he went 8-1 with 15 saves and a 1.29 ERA in a
career-high 73 appearances.
