 Yes, there was the ever popular book sale, which
proceeds benefit the library, but there was also a petting zoo,
giant games on the library lawn, chalk art on the new sidewalk
beside the library, and crafts galore in the annex. The library Fun
Day was a blast with mild temperatures and clear blue sky.
People really look forward to the annual book sale.
The library doors opened at 9 a.m. but excited book buyers were in
line by 8:30 a.m. The first in line annual leaders were Ron, Cindy,
Ruth and Matthew. The Peagram Room at the library was filled with
books. “We are really pleased by the quality of the books this
year,” said Library Director Richard Sumrall.
The word must have gotten out because the crowd was
at capacity.

“I don’t think I have ever seen this large a crowd
before,” said library board member Libby Anderson. She was kept busy
handing out IGA shopping bags during the very busy morning that were
soon filled to capacity by shoppers with this year’s book treasures.

Stu and Linda
Churchill are selling their collection of dolls and advertising
collection at the library book sale to benefit the library. Stu is a
member of the library board. They support several Lincoln charities
by selling their collection of 500 dolls.
There was more, though. Linda and Stu Churchill added
to the fundraiser by selling off part of their huge doll collection
in the library basement with proceeds going to the library. They
support several Lincoln area charities with their largesse. They
have held doll sales to support the Railsplitter Association, and
the Humane Society.
Outside, the fun continued with Ritchhart’s Petting
Zoo attracting kids and adults alike. A large checkers game drew
people to play under the perfect August sky. A Jenga game large
enough for a giant, and chalk for creating masterpieces on the
library sidewalk added to the lighthearted atmosphere. The Youth
Services staff hosted a Come-and- Go craft event in the annex with
kids creating their own balloon art.
Mark this Lincoln Public Library Book Sale as one for the record
books. Books were at the center of the event of course, but there
was enough going on to keep everyone entertained.
