The Lady Lynx took command early in set one
behind four straight points served by sophomore Faith McGinnes
(Mackinaw) to start the match. From there, LC was able to
maintain a comfortable lead and took set one 25-16. The only
disappointment in the set for Lincoln was the loss of senior
right side hitter Mattie Giese (Highland Park) to a knee injury
midway through the set. Giese was unable to return to the match.
Sophomore Morgan Meyer (Batesville, IN) filled in for Giese and
collected two kills and a block in set two to help LC hold off
the Eutectics and win the set 25-22.
The Lady Lynx looked to complete the sweep in set three, but St.
Louis had other plans as they increased their effort at the end
of the set to hold off two match point opportunities by Lincoln
and pull off a come-from-behind 28-26 win.
“We lost our intensity a bit in set three and let them come back
on us,” said Lincoln Coach Mark Tippett. “That’s something we
have done a few times already this year and it is certainly an
issue we need to work on.”
Lincoln was able to regroup in set four and played a much
cleaner set to win it 25-17. Much of the offense in set four was
produced by outside hitter Josalyn Owens (Lincoln) and right
side Mikayla Seibert (Mackinaw) who added to their team high
totals of 16 kills each in the match. Senior setter Emma Derry
(Augusta) led LC with 29 set assists and libero Megan Gilliam of
Waterloo, Illinois had a team-high 28 digs. Gilliam’s edged out
senior Hannah Cameron (Lincoln) for the honor by tallying just
one dig more than Cameron’s total of 27.
LC will play next on the road Thursday evening when they travel
to Hannibal, Missouri to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University at
6:00 PM.
