[December 21, 2019]    Simply the best - year after year after year - West Lincoln Broadwell captures sixth state championship in three years

West Lincoln Broadwell defeated A-C Central 39-28 to win the State Championship!

The Lady Wolverines of West Lincoln Broadwell have won yet another state basketball championship. WLB won both the Seventh and Eighth Grade Class 1A State Championship titles in 2017, 2018 and now 2019.

On Thursday night they defeated A-C Central 39-28 in Clinton to win the 2019 Eighth Grade Class 1A State Championship.

These girls are perfect. For real. They finished the 2019 basketball season 29-0. More impressively, they have compiled a record of 161 wins (165 including forfeits) and no losses during their reign under Head Coach Kari Froebe. Their success is unprecedented at any level of sports.

At the end of the Lady Wolverines close win over A-C Central Thursday night Coach Froebe focused her thoughts on her team.

“I just want to congratulate these girls,” said Froebe. “They have put in the work over the last eight years. What they’ve done for girls basketball in the Lincoln community and our school district, they’ve truly provided a legacy for themselves and for our program. Without their hard work and the dedication from them and their parents and the community, this would not have been possible. I appreciate all of their support through all of this. We are going to miss them.

"Our quote this year has been “One More, Just One More” and I told them it’s probably different for you than it is for me. I would like one more practice, one more game, one more night, and for them it’s just one more championship. To me it was more about wanting one more….just one more year. It went so fast. And every year with these girls it gets harder and harder.”

Froebe mentioned the fact that these girls will be moving on to high school and she is always proud of the girls advancing. This year will undoubtedly be tough on the coach, though, as her own daughter, Kloe, moves on to the next level.

Kloe Froebe led WLB in scoring in the championship game with 14 points. Jenna Bowman and Becca Heitzig each tossed in 10 points.
