The Honeybears jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half.
Cissna Park scored their first basket with 4:38 showing on
the second quarter clock.
Mount Pulaski led 25-8 at halftime. There was little doubt
this game belonged to the Honeybears. Mount Pulaski cruised
to the win with a final score of 36-18.
Grace Davis led Mount Pulaski with 16 points. Mackenzi
Chandler tossed in 14 points.
Mount Pulaski Head Coach James Anderson was extremely proud
of his team following the win to cap off the season. “These
girls have not disappointed this entire season,” said
Anderson. “They have done a great job. I am super-proud.
This is their second
third
place in a row. They are the only girls basketball team in
school history so far to go to state two years in a row.
Which considering the teams that we have had in the past,
that is saying a lot. They are going to finish their career
with a total of 48 wins and 7 losses. Five of those losses
are to our friends at WLB to be exact. Another loss was to
Ottawa Wallace last season and then one loss to A-C Central
this year. So a job well done. The kids really came out
strong today and the fan support was amazing. It was like a
home game today.
“I
also need to give a special shoutout to my assistants, Chris
Brown and Charlie Miller. Chris has helped a ton with the
girls and Charlie, who in 1999 it was his first time to go
to state with a West Lincoln team that he was coaching at
the time. So fast forward 20 years later and he’s getting a
third place medal. He and Chris did a great job and they
were a great support crew the entire year. I really
appreciate all they have done for the program.”
Mount Pulaski finished season 23-4.
