Memorial Medical Center to Hold Monthly Breast Cancer Support Group Meetings in 2020

SPRINGFIELD – Memorial Medical Center will hold a series of monthly meetings for its breast cancer support group in 2020.

Meetings begin at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Clarke Conference Room (E-118), Memorial Medical Center, 701 N. First St., Springfield. For more information on any of the listed meetings, call 217-757-7684.

Jan. 14: Dealing with Anxiety, Stress and Other Emotions, speaker Dr. Patricia Fank, psychologist, SIU Medicine.

Feb. 11: Mission Ghana, speaker Dr. Karen Hoelzer, retired medical oncologist.

March 10: Bone Health as It Relates to Breast Cancer, speaker Dr. Casey Younkin, obstetrics and gynecology, SIU Medicine.

April 14: Healthy Lifestyle Choices, speakers Dr. Nicole Florence and Wendi Schutte, Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Center.

May 12: Genetics and Breast Cancer, speaker Mary O’Connor, certified genetics counselor, SIU Medicine.

June 19: Feel More Like You program, skin care for cancer patients, Walgreens

July 14: Art project, Peggy Means. Location to be announced.

Aug. 11: Healthy Cooking, speaker Dr. Leslie Smith, SIU Medicine. Location to be announced.

Sept. 8: Emergency Management at Home, speaker Richard Wiese, emergency medical technician-paramedic, Memorial Medical Center.

Oct. 13: Targeted Therapies for Breast Cancer Treatment, speaker Dr. Namita Vinayek, oncologist, Springfield Clinic.

Nov. 10: Holiday social; dinner at a to-be-announced location.

No meeting will be held in December. Meetings will resume in 2021.
