Saturday night’s game at the 2019 Prairie Farms Holiday Classic
at Collinsville High School was a nail-biter for Railer fans.
The game featured a matchup between the undefeated Mustangs of
Mundelein High School and the undefeated Railsplitters of
Lincoln Community High School.
After seeing the Railers trail 20-15 at the end of the first
quarter and eventually falling behind 32-22 at the half, fans
were on the edge of their seats as Lincoln battled back to a
38-34 third quarter deficit. The Railers tied the score 42-42 at
the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Senior
Kaden Froebe was the one who tied the game with .2 seconds
remaining as he sank the first of two free throws. In the four
minute overtime the Mustangs went off for 19 points, 10-of-13
which were scored from the free throw line. Lincoln managed to
score threes from Will Ewald and Froebe in overtime, along with
two free throws from Landon Hullinger.
The Railers suffer their first defeat of the season, a hard
fought 61-50 loss to Mundelein.
Kaden Froebe led Lincoln with 19 points. Kameron Whiteman tossed
in 12 points and Dylan Singleton connected for 11 points.
The Mustangs out-rebounded the Railers 29-19.
Lincoln (11-1) will face Springfield Southeast on Monday at 6:00
p.m. in the third place game of the tournament.
Mundelein will take on Collinsville at 7:30 p.m. in the
championship game of the tournament.
