The Railers absolutely annihilated the Spartans in the first
half. Coach Neil Alexander’s team did everything right to start
the game and ran out to a 23-2 lead over Southeast as the
Spartans struggled to even get the ball across half court. By
the time the first quarter misery had ended for the Spartans,
the Railers commanded a 31-4 lead.
Leading the first quarter damage was Kaden Froebe with 13 points
and Will Ewald with 10 points.
Southeast was able to keep their hands on the ball to start the
second quarter and put together a short-lived 7-0 run on
Lincoln. But a multitude of steals later and the Railers were
off and running to a 39-15 lead with still minutes to play in
the second quarter.
A couple chances at the free throw line for Lincoln slowed the
game down momentarily and all the Spartans could do was watch
the ball sink through the net.
After Froebe and Dylan Singleton tossed in the last two buckets
of the half, the Railers jogged their way to the locker room
leading 47-18 over Southeast.
Lincoln already had three players in double figures at the half:
Froebe (18), Ewald (14) and Singleton (10).
The Railers jumped out to a 49-18 lead quickly into the third
quarter on a bucket by Froebe. This sped things up a bit as the
running clock rule went into effect with the Railers up by
30-plus points at just the 7:00 minute mark. So seven minutes
later the Railers were up 61-28 when the third quarter buzzer
sounded.
The eight minutes in the fourth quarter literally flew by and
Lincoln breezed to the 67-40 win, giving Railer fans an early
opportunity to hit the road and head north after a long weekend
of basketball action.
The Railers earned the third place trophy with a 3-1 tournament
record. Kaden Froebe earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Kaden Froebe led the Railers in scoring against Southeast.
Froebe poured in 25 points. Will Ewald tossed in 18 points.
Landon Hullinger celebrated his birthday by scoring 11 points.
Dylan Singleton’s solid performance included 10 points.
The Railers defense was outstanding all night long, forcing 23
turnovers and getting 15 steals.
Lincoln improves to 12-1 overall on the season.
The Railers will return to action on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at
Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium.
