 To the editor:Aren’t we all
sick of politics? Yes, I’m a democrat, usually with a small d.
Mitch McConnell said the day of Barack Obama’s swearing in that he
and his party would do absolutely anything to make Obama a failed
president. Never mind that the American people were going bankrupt
because of a failed economy largely due to unregulated financial
dealings and uncovered medical costs. To heck with fixing problems.
Now we have ‘the wall’ with Democrats balking at
its funding. Never mind that Republicans had control of Congress for
two years. Never mind that the President has only spent 6% of the
money appropriated in the last two fiscal years. The line in the
sand wasn’t drawn when they had control-only after the GOP lost the
house. That’s pure politics and no governing. BTW, there was a
bipartisan resolution about a year ago that Mr. Art of the Deal
couldn’t close.

Ideally, negotiations involve compromise. Demanding
isn’t negotiating-Gov. Rauner was our recent example of how well
that works. Maybe, we the people need to demand that our elected
officials actually work on solving problems. Compromise is required.
It’s required in our daily lives and shouldn’t be foreign to those
we choose to govern.
Or we continue on this dangerous path that doesn’t resemble the
democracy I recall. This new reality of keeping campaign issues
alive over fixing problems needs to be short-lived.
