LINCOLN
On Thursday morning, the current owners of the Lincoln bottle
factory or glass plant informed employees that the factory would
close permanently effective April 30th.
Ardagh Group’s Lincoln Plant Manager Bob Burke in a letter to all
hourly employees said that lower demand for glass products and
“strong inflationary pressures in 2018” had made it impossible for
the company to keep the local factory open.
Employees were told that they would have the opportunity to apply
for positions in other Ardagh Group glass plants, and the company
would also work to help coordinate assistance for job seekers
through local agencies.

The factory does consist of union employees and those employees were assured
that the company would be meeting with union officials to work through the
details of severance packages that would include insurance coverage, pension,
and other benefits afforded to employees through their union contract.
The factory, which has been in Lincoln for many years under various owners has
provided stable employment for many in the community. Currently there are 150
employees who will be facing work displacement in the near future.
