Top 25 roundup: No. 24 Maryland edge No. 21 Iowa

[February 20, 2019]  Bruno Fernando tipped in a missed shot with 7.8 seconds left to lift No. 24 Maryland to its first road win over a ranked team in more than 11 years, a 66-65 victory over No. 21 Iowa on Tuesday night in Iowa City.

The Terrapins (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten) called timeout with 14.3 seconds left to set up the final possession. Anthony Cowan Jr., who had a game-high 17 points, drove to the basket, but his layup attempt came off the front of the rim, where Fernando was able to poke it in.

After a timeout, Iowa's Jordan Bohannon took the ball up court and fired a straight-away 3-pointer that went off the front of the rim. The Hawkeyes' Isaiah Moss jumped to grab the rebound and shoot in one motion, but his 8-footer missed as time ran out.

Iowa (20-6, 9-6) had won its previous two games with shots with less than a second to go. The Hawkeyes rallied from a 12-point deficit with 13:44 left Tuesday night but saw their four-game winning streak end. The Terrapins beat a ranked team on the road for the first time since topping No. 1 North Carolina on Jan. 19, 2008.

No. 4 Kentucky 66, Missouri 58

PJ Washington recorded 18 points and eight rebounds to help the Wildcats post a 66-58 victory over the Tigers in Columbia, Mo.

Tyler Herro also scored 18 points as Kentucky (22-4, 11-2 Southeastern Conference) prevailed for the 12th time in its past 13 games. Ashton Hagans added 12 points.

Ronnie Suggs scored 13 points for Missouri (12-13, 3-10), which lost for the 10th time in its past 13 contests. Jordan Geist added 11 points.

No. 5 Tennessee 58, Vanderbilt 46

The Volunteers got back to their winning ways, knocking off the Commodores in Knoxville, Tenn.

Grant Williams (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Lamonte Turner and Admiral Schofield (12 points each) paced Tennessee (24-2, 12-1 SEC). The Volunteers were playing in their first game since Kentucky snapped their 19-game winning streak on Saturday, knocking them from the country's top ranking.

Aaron Nesmith scored 13 points, the only player in double figures for Vanderbilt (9-17, 0-13). The loss was the Commodores' 14th straight, tying the all-time program record.

No. 15 Purdue 48, Indiana 46

Matt Haarms' tip-in with 3.2 seconds to go lifted the Boilermakers to a victory over the Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind. Haarms knocked in Carsen Edwards' miss. Indiana's Juwan Morgan missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Edwards, who was averaging 24.2 points entering the game, was limited to nine points, hitting only 4 of 24 shots.

Ryan Cline led the Boilermakers (19-7, 12-3 Big Ten) with 11 points, all in the second half. Purdue has won 10 of its past 11 games while Indiana (13-13, 4-11) has dropped 11 of the last 12 games. Romeo Langford was the Hoosiers' leading scorer with 14 points.

No. 16 Florida State 77, Clemson 64

Mfiondu Kabengele scored 19 points as the Seminoles cruised past the Tigers in Clemson, S.C., to win their school-record eighth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference game.

Florida State (21-5, 9-4 ACC) is tied for fourth place in the league with Louisville. The Seminoles, who have won six of their past seven games meetings with the Tigers, got 14 points from Trent Forrest and 10 from Christ Koumadje.


Marcquise Reed scored a game-high 20 points for Clemson (15-11, 5-8).

Baylor 73, No. 19 Iowa State 69

Jared Butler scored 17 points and Freddie Gillespie added a career-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double as the Bears stunned the Cyclones at Ames, Iowa.

Makai Mason finished with 14 points and Devonte Bandoo added 10 for Baylor, which had lost three of its previous four after a six-game winning streak. The Bears (17-9, 8-5 Big 12) outrebounded the Cyclones 44-28 in the victory.

Marial Shayok poured in 20 points for Iowa State (19-7, 8-5). Lindell Wigginton hit for 10 points for the Cyclones, who have lost two of their past three games.

No. 25 Buffalo 114, Ohio 67

Jayvon Graves erupted for a career-high 26 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, and the host Bulls notched their fourth straight victory by overwhelming the Bobcats.

CJ Massinburg supplied 23 points for the Bulls (23-3, 11-2 Mid-American Conference), who set a program record by making 19 3-pointers. Buffalo attempted 33 shots from beyond the arc. The Bulls also established a school record for most points against a Division I opponent.

Ohio (11-14, 3-10) lost its sixth straight. Jason Carter led the Bobcats with 16 points, while Doug Taylor tossed in 14 points and Teyvion Kirk had 10.
