Patrick Kane scored his second
goal of the game at 2:42 of overtime and the visiting Chicago
Blackhawks won for the 10th time in 12 games, topping the Detroit
Red Wings 5-4 on Wednesday.
Kane stretched his point streak to 19 games, an NHL high this
season. However, his assists streak ended at 17 consecutive games,
tied for the third-longest such streak in NHL history.
In OT, Kane fired a shot from the right circle past goaltender
Jonathan Bernier after passes from Erik Gustafsson and Jonathan
Toews.
Artem Anisimov, Brandon Saad and Alex DeBrincat also scored for
Chicago, which squandered a 4-1 lead in the third period. Gustafsson
had three assists.
Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou scored two goals apiece for
Detroit. Anthony Mantha assisted on all four goals.
Chicago led 3-1 after the first period.
Anisimov scored his 10th goal just 1:39 into the game. Goalie Jimmy
Howard tried to play the puck from behind the net to one of his
defensemen, but Anisimov stole it and backhanded it into the net.
Larkin tied it at the 6:37 mark with a shot from the right circle
after Mantha won a battle for the puck behind the net.
Saad scored his 21st goal at the 12:04 mark. Dylan Sikura and goalie
Cam Ward were credited with assists.
The Blackhawks made it 3-1 at 16:51 when Dylan Strome slid a pass in
the offensive zone to DeBrincat, who fired a shot from the right
circle over Howard's left shoulder.

Kane scored the only second-period goal on a two-on-one rush after
receiving a pass from Gustafsson in the defensive zone. Kane fired a
shot from the right circle past Howard on the stick side. Detroit
coach Jeff Blashill then pulled Howard in favor of Bernier.
Larkin scored his second goal of the night at 4:19 of the third.
Athanasiou scored at 5:23 of the third period on the power play,
lifting a shot near the post over Ward's right shoulder.
With Detroit's net empty, Athanasiou knotted it with 1:26 remaining
in regulation. Mantha slid a pass to the side of the net, where
Athanasiou banged it home.
Ward stopped 31 shots in the win. Bernier saved 11 of the 12 shots
he faced after Howard gave up four goals on eight shots.
