Lincoln College will be hosting the Association of Independent
Institutions' (AII) Men's Basketball Championship tournament this
weekend.
Lincoln Christian University (11-16) is one of the eight teams
competing in the NAIA post-season event. LCU received the 8th seed
in the tournament. The Lincoln College Lynx won’t be competing in
this event because, as this is their first season in the NAIA, it is
a probationary year for the school.
“We are proud to host the AII Championship Tournament. We welcome
these top teams to the campus and we look forward to being part of
the competition in coming years,” said Lincoln College President
David Gerlach.
While Lincoln College hosts the men’s tournament, Lincoln Christian
University will be hosting the women.
Indiana University Northwest enters the tournament as the top seed.
IU-N was ranked as high as No. 23 in the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national rankings and finished the
regular season with a 21-6 record. Washington Adventist University
(MD), the No. 2 seed, comes in with a record of 20-9 and Voorhees
College (19-5) of South Carolina is the No. 3 seed. College of the
Ozarks (MO), brings in an 18-9 record to round out the top half of
the bracket as the No. 4 seed.
Other participants include Haskell Indian Nations University
(12-15), Northern New Mexico College (10-16) and Green Mountain
College from Vermont (18-6).
Four quarterfinal games will take place on Friday, February 22nd
beginning at 1:00 PM. The four winners advance to the semifinals on
Saturday with the championship game set for 7:30 PM that evening.
