This past weekend Lincoln Junior High School
hosted the annual John Welsh Memorial Trogan Tournament. While
the junior high offers the organization and management of the
tournament games take place in 10 locations around the city of
Lincoln.
The tournament features basketball players starting in the third
grade through the eighth grade with both boys and girls teams
participating. Many of these teams are local, but there is also
a healthy mix of teams coming from great distances.
This year 172 teams signed up for the weekend event that started
on Saturday morning and concluded on Sunday evening.
According to information presented to the Logan County Tourism Bureau, each team
brings into the city approximately 30 people from team members to family
members, bus drivers, coaches and their families, as well as those who follow
the tournaments and attend as fans. With each person comes an opportunity for
the city to benefit through sales tax, hotel stays, and increased foot traffic
through our area stores and restaurants.
Additionally, the money raised at the tournament through admission prices and
concessions help the junior high and other organizations in the community.
