[February 26, 2019]    Chicago Cubs infielder David Bote was examined by a team doctor again Monday, one day after he was hit in the head with a pitch from San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

Bote was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Bumgarner during the second inning of Sunday's game at Scottsdale, Ariz. In his first start of the spring, Bumgarner struggled in his second inning of work, throwing 29 pitches and not retiring any of the six batters he faced. All six eventually scored.

Giants team doctors tended to Bote after he was hit and he reportedly was examined by Cubs medical personnel when the team returned to its spring training facility in Mesa.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters Monday that the area where Bote was hit made him uneasy but that his injury did not "seem to be awful."

Bote will reportedly resume baseball activities Tuesday and could return to game action Wednesday. As a rookie last season, Bote batted .239 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 74 games, getting playing time while Kris Bryant worked his way through a left shoulder injury.
