The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team finished their 2019 season
with a win over the Columbia College Cougars on Saturday. Lincoln
claimed an 88-79 victory to give them a final record of 22-8 for the
year.
As this is LC’s first season of competition in the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), they will not be
post-season eligible until next year.
The Lynx jumped out to a 10-5 advantage in the early going against
Columbia and were able to extend their lead to as many as 15 points
in the first half. A late charge by the Cougars trimmed Lincoln’s
lead to nine points at halftime (40-33). The two teams played evenly
in the second half, each scoring 46 points to arrive at a final
score of 88-79.
Lincoln was led in scoring by senior Julian Powell (Baytown, TX) who
had 17 points and 11 rebounds in his final game as Lynx.

Glenwood native Lajavius Johnson (15 points), Chicago’s J.J. Turner
(12 points), and LeeAnthony Bogan from Jennings, Missouri who was
good for six points and three rebounds.
LC Coach Pat Lepper was happy with the way his team performed. “It
was great to finish on a win and have everyone contribute,” said
Lepper. “I am proud of our seniors and look forward to seeing them
continue to be successful in life after Lincoln College.”
Coach Lepper is also pleased with the way the Lynx competed this
season as a new member of the NAIA.
“We showed we have the talent to be a competitive varsity program
this year, and I look forward to the challenge of continuing to
bring in athletes that will keep up going in a positive direction,”
said Lepper.
