The Lincoln College Men’s Volleyball team went 1-1 at the Missouri
Baptist University Triangular event on Friday. LC lost in three sets
to the host school then went on to defeat St. Ambrose University in
four sets.
The Missouri Baptist Spartans entered the match against Lincoln
undefeated (13-0) and having recently moved into the #1 spot in the
latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
National Poll. LC was able to hang with MBU throughout the first
set, even claiming leads at 14-12 and 19-18, but the Spartans would
catch up at 22-22 then win the next three volleys to claim a 25-22
set one win.
The loss put Lincoln on the defensive for the rest of the match
which resulted in two less competitive results. MBU won set two
25-15 and took set three 25-14 to end the match.
“Missouri Baptist is a very solid team,” said LC Head Coach Mark
Tippett. “We showed we can rise to their level, but did not play
consistently enough to remain competitive with them the whole match.
It was a good gauge of where we are and should be motivation for us
when we see them again at home later in the season.”
Lincoln did not have long to ponder the loss to MBU as they played
their next match against St. Ambrose University right away. The St.
Ambrose Bees have been ranked as high at #8 this season and received
votes in the most recent NAIA poll.

Lincoln came out firing on all cylinders in set one to take it
25-16, but SAU answered Lincoln’s strong start with a 25-20 win in
set two to even the match.
Set three saw Lincoln regroup and return to form to lead most of the
way and hold on for a 25-23 win then finish the match off with a
more comfortable 25-18 victory in set four.
The win over St. Ambrose improved the team’s record to 9-5 on the
season.
“I thought we passed the ball very well against St. Ambrose which
gave us a chance to run our offense effectively,” said Tippett. “Our
guys played with energy and stuck together.”
Lincoln will play next at home on Wednesday, February 27th against
Greenville College. A JV match is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM with
the varsity match set for 7:00 PM.
