Seminar on Music Licensing and Publishing at Lincoln College
Special March 8 Event is Open to High School Students and Teachers


 

[February 26, 2019]   Area high school music instructors and their students are being invited to the next lecture by a visiting music professional at Lincoln College.

Alby Odum will present a seminar on “Music Licensing and Publishing” to Lincoln College Contemporary Jazz Studies students on Friday, March 8, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 4:00 pm. The event will be held in the Johnston Center on the Lincoln College campus.

“Once again, I’m very pleased to have a music professional come to campus to share his expertise and practical advice with students. It is vitally important that students learn practical skills and connect with experts who have turned their love of music into a profession,” Denise La Grassa, lead faculty for the Contemporary Jazz Studies program at Lincoln College, said. “I’m also pleased that we can share this opportunity with high school students and their instructors, so that students interested in studying music after graduation have a chance to see the range of music business opportunities that are available.”

Odum will introduce students to his business model and discuss the business of music licensing and publishing. He is the co-founder of Gpssongs.com, a boutique music publishing/music licensing company that places songs with film and television, commercials, video games, artists, and custom independent projects. They have placed artist’s songs on dozens of movies and television programs. Recent placements have included: Blindspot on NBC, Gotham on Fox, Z Nation on Syfy, and King of The Road on Vice.

Odum is also a professional musician, a composer, arranger and orchestrator and an instructor at the University of St. Francis in Joliet in the Digital Audio Recording Arts program.
