[February 28, 2019]    Daniel Royer scored for the second game in a row in the opening round of the CONCACAF Champions League, and the New York Red Bulls beat the Dominican Republic's Atletico Pantoja 3-0 Wednesday in Harrison, N.J., to complete a 5-0 aggregate victory.

The Red Bulls advance to a quarterfinal series with Santos Laguna. The Mexican team earned a 5-0 home win over Honduras' Club Deportivo Marathon to cap an 11-2 aggregate blowout.

Sean Davis scored for New York in the 27th minute, and Royer added a penalty-kick goal five minutes later. Andreas Ivan added to the one-sided result in the 75th minute.

Santos cruised behind goals from Marlos Moreno (19th minute), Julio Furch (22nd), Ulises Rivas (31st), Eduardo Aguirre (82nd) and Diego de Buen (penalty kick in the 85th minute).

In other first-round CONCACAF Champions League action Wednesday, Mexico's CF Monterrey edged El Salvador's Alianza FC 1-0 in the second leg of their matchup and overall. Neither team scored in the first leg last week in San Salvador. Nicolas Sanchez's 86th-minute penalty kick was the difference after Sanchez had a penalty kick saved in the 51st minute.

Monterrey moves on to a quarterfinal matchup against Herediano or Atlanta United. Herediano took the first leg 3-1 at home in Costa Rica last week, with the second leg scheduled for Thursday in Kennesaw, Ga.
