The Chicago Cubs made two
additions to manager Joe Maddon's coaching staff on Wednesday.
Former All-Star infielder Mark Loretta will be their bench coach and
one-time All-Star pitcher Bob Tewksbury will be their mental skills
coordinator.
Loretta, who spent nine years as special assistant to baseball
operations with the San Diego Padres, takes the place of Brandon
Hyde, who recently was named manager of the Baltimore Orioles.
Tewksbury has previous experience in his new role with the Cubs,
having served in that capacity with the San Francisco Giants and
Boston Red Sox.
Loretta hit .295 during a 15-year major league career that included
All-Star Game appearances in 2004 with the Padres and 2006 with the
Red Sox, and playoff stops with the 2005 Padres and 2009 Los Angeles
Dodgers, along with stints with the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston
Astros.

In a 13-year career from 1986-98 that included parts of two seasons
with the Cubs, Tewksbury played for five other teams -- primarily
the St. Louis Cardinals -- and compiled a 110-102 record with a 3.92
ERA and 812 strikeouts over 302 appearances (277 starts). He was an
All-Star with the Cardinals in 1992.
In 2004, Tewksbury earned a master's degree in sports psychology and
counseling from Boston University.
