The 2017 Lady Wolverines 7th and 8th grade state championship basketball teams were honored at the state capital on Tuesday in Springfield. WLB coach Kari Froebe said, "It was an amazing experience. Most girls had never been to the state capital."

At the Tuesday evening meeting of the Lincoln City Council aldermen bade a fond farewell to the Council Recording Secretary Risa Riggs. Riggs had announced last week that she would be resigning her position effective with the last meeting in February. In appreciation for her time of service, City Clerk Peggy Bateman presented Riggs with a gift from city government.

On Monday, LDN's Curtis Fox was out flying with a friend over Mason County and the Illinois River. Fox caught an amazing sight, the migration of snow geese by tens of thousands landing on the Illinois River backwaters and the nearby Emiquon Nature Preserve. The white "islands" in the photo on the right are geese that have landed on the river. In the photo on the left are hundreds more, still aloft, but preparing to take their rest. Fox said the airplane was flying at an altitude of about 2,500, the lowest allowed over a nature preserve, offering the unique perspective of seeing the birds from above.

This group of young athletes represents the East Team that participated in the debut of the YBN All-State Classic Basketball Tournament held at Lincoln College over this past weekend. The East Team walked away with the tournament championship winning all four of the games they played.

This was a great experience for the players and for our community. Organizers are excited to see it return next year and look forward to building on the great success they experienced in their inaugural event.

The Hartem Stags did it again! A three-peat if you will. Just like the Chicago Bulls of the '90s, the Stags 7th Grade Volleyball Team made it their second three-peat of the decade. The Stags won in 2011, 2012 and 2013 before taking a couple of years off and bouncing back to claim the 7th grade title in 2016, 2017 and now 2018.

The Mount Pulaski Honeybears have done it again! The Honeybears dominated the competition on Saturday at the 2018 in the 7th Grade Class 2A State Championship in Pawnee and became back-to-back state champions.

Congratulations to the Honeybears on another stellar season and another State Championship!
