Obituary
Lloyd Dean Eggers, 82, of Springfield
and formerly of Mount Pulaski, passed away on
December 22, 2018 in Wauwatosa Wisconsin with his
daughter and family by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William
“Osee” and Mary Naomi (Sullender) Eggers; his eight
elder siblings, Vera “Dolores”, William Harry,
George Marshall, Richard Max, Mildred Evelyn,
Willard Elyn, Charles Wendell, and Robert Eugene;
his wife, Deloris (Durbin) Eggers who passed in
1984, and his daughter, Shari (Eggers) West who
passed in 2016. He is survived by his daughter,
Terres (Rodney) Eggers Van Bibber of Wauwatosa,
Wisconsin and five grandchildren Patrick Van Bibber
(Wauwatosa), Emily Van Bibber (Chicago), Thomas Van
Bibber(Durham), Catie Van Bibber (Wauwatosa), and
Austin West (Chicago) and a son-in-law Randy West of
Illiopoliss. He is also survived by Patricia Mary
O’Kane Eggers of Springfield, who he married on
December 30, 1989 and loved dearly.
Lloyd was born on May 24, 1936 in Toledo, Illinois.
He was a star Cumberland High School basketball
player nicknamed “Bat” due to his tremendous
wingspan. Lloyd earned a full ride to play
basketball at the University of Illinois, also
lettering in baseball. |
He was a U.S. Army veteran and earned
the opportunity to play basketball throughout
Europe. Lloyd received his Master’s Degree from the
University of Illinois and taught science and
driver’s education at Mount Pulaski High School for
many years.
Lloyd was an active member of Springfield First
United Methodist Church; his IBT Sunday School class
was his second family. Lloyd loved the outdoors,
showed his young family the country camping, and was
an extremely hard worker, refusing to give up be it
in sports or his fight with brain cancer.
Memorial services will be held at Springfield First
United Methodist Church at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday,
January 2, 2019. Visitation will take place two
hours prior to the service from 3:00-5:00.
