July 21

On "Friday the 13th" in Mount Pulaski it was a beautiful evening where nothing went wrong as the town filled with shoppers coming for the Second Friday Market and Street Fest. Visitors came to town for some great food from Lantz BBQ, good music with Joe Stamm and fun and games on the streets bordering the historic Mount Pulaski Courthouse.

The second Friday events are held during the summer months and afford the community an excellent opportunity to come together to enjoy the company of friends, family, and friends who feel like family.

July 25

A second generation police officer? Could be. This little gal dressed in black and blue is the daughter of a Lincoln police officer and was among those on hand Friday morning to welcome the Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors bicyclists into Lincoln. The group made their annual stop at the Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District firehouse for lunch.

July 27

Thursday marked the first official day of the change in management for the Logan County Tourism Bureau. Morgan Gleason (left) stepped into the director position. She follows Cris Wibben, who has moved into the private sector.

Gleason has been with the bureau since April of 2017 and worked closely with Wibben during that time. She has gained knowledge and experience that the tourism board feels will serve the community very well in the future.

Joining Gleason is Kaylee Kirby, who was hired to fill Gleason’s prior position of tourism assistant. Kirby grew up in the Mason City area and now lives in Emden with her beau Cole Baker and her best pooch Mila. Kirby is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the tourism staff. She has a degree in agriculture and feels she will be able to bring the ag perspective to tourism. Kirby also looks forward to working with Gleason to promote tourism on the whole within our communities.

The group was on hand Thursday to install the new mural at the Lincoln Welcome Garden that was painted by local artists. The brightly colored artwork is mounted out the back side of the Welcome sign at the corner of Kickapoo and Pekin Streets. Be sure to stop by and take a good look.

July 28

On Wednesday evening the Xamis Ford Lincoln dealership in Lincoln celebrated its 29th year with an evening of food and fun for its staff and customers. Jim and Cathy Xamis purchased the dealership in 1989 from Tom Ashley and have been an integral part of our community ever since.

For the Xamis's the dealership has always been a real family affair with daughter Christine starring in television commercials for the dealership, sometimes alongside her brother Matt when they were younger. Today, Christina and Matt are both involved with the dealership and with the family ever growing, it appears that a third generation Xamis is waiting in the wings.

Wednesday evening, those three generations were well represented as Cathy and Christina with her son Nicholas caught in a shot at the party.

In addition to the Xamis family, there were plenty of folks on hand Wednesday evening. Many were enjoying the brats and fresh corn on the cob being served up. The youngsters had a blast playing in the inflatable that was set up in the parking lot, and the snow cones were also very popular.
