Elaina Jones, Arianna Morris, and Abbie Arnold

Three students from Chester-East Lincoln School - Abbie Arnold, Elaina Jones and Arianna Morris will join outstanding elementary school students from across the nation this July in Chicago to take part in a unique academic development experience called the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

All three girls were nominated by one of their teachers, Mrs. Heather Ramey, because of their enthusiasm for learning, diligence with their studies, strong leadership potential, and motivation to succeed. They very much look forward to attending the forum this summer in order to work their minds and expand their knowledge. They are also excited to meet new friends and work with others who share their same love for learning.

June 2
Dock Dogs made its debut in downtown Lincoln on Friday afternoon. Dock Dogs is a family friendly part of the Lincoln Pigs & Swigs Festival that mom, dad and kids will all enjoy seeing. The fun began early afternoon and went into the evening. The dogs and their handlers compete to see which dog will retrieve his or her toy the quickest, can jump the farthest or the highest, all with a pool of water as the competition arena.

June 4
The Dock Dogs proved to be very popular with visitors right out of the gate, literally and figuratively. Spectators for the events held on Friday and Saturday found soft resting spots on the lawn of the Logan County Courthouse. Some spectators brought lawn chairs and still others just enjoyed watching for a while before moving to another attraction, then coming back to watch a bit longer. All in all, it was a great first-year turnout, and we hope to see them back again next year.

June 5
Residents at St. Clara's Rehab and Senior Care recently enjoyed the opportunity to get outside and get their fingers in the soil. Residents assisted by Doug Fink of the St. Clara's maintenance department, planted flowers in the planters in the courtyard at the manor.

The flowers were donated by Tonita Reifsteck in memory of her daughter Lucinda. Reifsteck was also on hand helping with the planting.

The Mount Pulaski High School Trap Team, in just their second year competing, won the Illinois State Trap Shoot on Saturday June 2, 2018 at the Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill.

June 7
On Monday, a group of 41 bicycle riders and support staff from Manchester Missouri made a stop in Lincoln. The group is riding for the Missouri Habitat for Humanity (Mo-Hab) in an effort to raise $25,000 for the next home build in their community. The bikers followed Route 66, starting their ride in Alton at the Chain of Rocks Bridge and concluding in Pontiac.

June 13
Last week LDN caught sight of work underway on the grounds at the Lincoln Public Library. Further investigation revealed new sidewalks going in on the parking lot side of the building. A nice improvement to an already wonderful landmark and educational resource in Lincoln!
