The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team traveled to Bourbonnais,
Illinois Tuesday evening for a matchup with Olivet Nazarene
University and returned with a hard-fought 87-75 victory. The win
improves Lincoln’s record to 15-7 on the season.
The Lynx got off to a rocky start in the game and trailed in the
opening minutes 12-1. LC then regrouped and began to chip away at
the ONU lead and eventually went into halftime down by just one
point (44-43). Lincoln came out with more confidence in the second
half and improved their shooting percentage to 50% which helped them
take the lead and achieve the 12-point victory.
Lincoln guards Lejavius Johnson (Glenwood) and Trayvon Tyler
(Rockford) combined for 44 points with Johnson accounting for 22 and
Tyler 20. Darnell Latham Jr. (Chicago) poured in 14 points and
senior forward Julian Powell (Baytown, TX) recorded another
double–double by scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high 12
rebounds. Sophomore forward Tyrone Wright from St. Louis, Missouri
gave LC a much needed boost coming off the bench to score 14 points
and pull down five rebounds.

Lincoln College Assistant Coach Edwind McGhee was impressed with the
team’s ability to recover from their early-game troubles. “We had to
be resilient in order to earn this win,” said McGhee. “It helped
that we got some great production off the bench from Tyrone, and the
guys didn’t let getting behind early stop them from sticking to our
game plan and working hard to get back in the game.”
Lincoln’s next game will be on January 17th at Lincoln Christian
University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
