The Portland Timbers acquired
defender Claude Dielna from the New England Revolution for $100,000
in General Allocation Money, both teams announced Wednesday.
The 31-year-old Dielna played in 17 matches (15 starts) last season
with the Revolution before falling out of favor. He didn't see any
action over the final three months.
Overall, he made 28 appearances (26 starts) in two seasons with New
England.
"Claude is a player we have monitored closely since his arrival in
Major League Soccer over a year ago," Timbers general manager Gavin
Wilkinson said in a news release. "After many discussions with the
player, it is clear that he has a keen interest in this opportunity
to join the Timbers and contribute to the club's success. His
familiarity with the league, along with his global playing
experience will be beneficial to our group."

Dielna will be counted on to help Portland account for the departure
of Liam Ridgewell. The Timbers and their former captain mutually
agreed to part ways last week.
