The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team came
out on top of their first clash with crosstown rival Lincoln
Christian University Red Lions on Thursday evening at LCU.
The LCU was able to control of the tempo of play in the early
going, and eight minutes into the game held a 21-14 lead.
Lincoln then went on an 8-0 run to go up 22-21 and eventually
increased their advantage at the end of the first half to nine
points (47-38). The Lynx would maintain a double-digit lead
throughout most of the second half on their way to sixteenth win
of the season 86-71.
Lincoln’s Trayvon Tyler (Rockford) led all scorers with 21
points going 6-for-14 from the field. Chicago native J.J. Turner
also had a big night for LC recording a double-double with 16
points and a team-high 10 rebounds in the game. Other Lynx
players to reach double-digits in scoring were Darnell Latham
Jr. (Chicago) and Julian Powell (Baytown, TX). Latham had 14
points and Powell was good for 10.
Lincoln’s next scheduled game against William Woods University
on January 19th has been postponed due to expected severe
weather. On January 26th, Lincoln (16-7) will host Silver Lake
College at 3:00 PM.
