Obituary
Edward “Ed / Eddie” Hickey, 88, of
Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019,
at his home with his daughter by his side.
To honor Ed’s wishes, no visitation will be held and
private funeral services will be held at the Peasley
Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Military
Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #263
of Lincoln.
Edward Hickey was born March 9, 1930, in Lincoln,
the son of Edward and Daisy Higgins Hickey. He
graduated from St. Patrick’s Grade School and
Lincoln Community High School. He received an
Associate’s Degree from Lincoln College in 1950. He
then served four years in the United States Air
Force Security Service in Tokyo, Japan. He was
united in marriage with Phyllis “Pat” Detwiler on
June 26, 1957. She preceded him in death on March
16, 2017.
Family was most important to Ed. Surviving are his
daughter: Debbie (Ron) Ackerman of Lincoln, sister:
Pauline Williams of Lincoln; three grandchildren:
Chris (Katelyn) Ackerman, Craig (Ellen) Ackerman,
and Sarah Fuller; brother-in-law: Richard (Jane)
Detwiler, of Urbana, OH; one niece and several
nephews.
In addition to his wife , Ed was also preceded in
death by his parents; one daughter, Lisa Fuller; his
sister Phyllis Smith; one nephew; and several
in-laws.

Ed was a practitioner of Judo and proudly competed in
Osawa, Japan during his time serving our country. He worked at Lehn
and Fink and the MII, Inc. in Lincoln until his retirement. He was a
licensed Interstate Commerce Commission practitioner and taught
evening classes on transportation law in Decatur. Ed was a member of
Holy Family Catholic Church and a Member of Knights of Columbus
Council #1250.
He and Pat enjoyed getting together with family and friends and
traveling. Their favorite vacations were family trips with their
daughters and grandchildren to Disney World, Clearwater Beach, and
Waikiki Beach. Ed liked watching Fox News, especially Judge Jeanine
Pirro. He loved chocolate and listening to Hawaiian and big band
music.
The family offers special thanks to Ed’s caregivers, especially
Marsha Long and Marilyn Wall, Pinnacle Providers, and Safe Haven
Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln
College c/o Advancement Office, 300 Keokuk St., Lincoln, or Safe
Haven Hospice, 628 1/2 Broadway St., Lincoln.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of
Lincoln.
