LINCOLN
- Donald “Don” Alm ,98, and Bernadine Alm, 92, passed
away peacefully two days apart after 69 years of marriage. Don
passed away 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday June 19, 2019 at St. John’s
Hospital in Springfield. Bernadine passed away at 2:50 p.m. on
Friday June 21, 2019 also at St. John’s Hospital.

at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland

Obituary
Donald “Don” Alm ,98, and Bernadine
Alm, 92, passed away peacefully two days apart after
69 years of marriage. Don passed away 6:20 a.m. on
Wednesday June 19, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in
Springfield. Bernadine passed away at 2:50 p.m. on
Friday June 21, 2019 also at St. John’s Hospital.
Donald “Don” Alm, 98, of Lincoln passed away June
19, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield,
Illinois. Don was born July 1, 1920 in Nebraska, son
of Arthur H. and Charlotte Alm. Don served in the
Army Air Corps from 1944-1946. He was an Automotive
Equipment Operator in the Pacific Theater 1944-1945
in the battle areas of the Western Pacific and the
Ryukyus, a group of islands south of Japan. Don was
a decorated World War II Veteran and a member of the
American Legion Post # 263 in Lincoln, IL. Don
retired from Firestone as a truck tire handler. Don
was an avid Cubs fan and very proud when they
finally won the World Series. Don is survived by one
brother Ted Alm of Amarillo, Texas, one sister,
Peggy Maw of O’Neill, Nebraska and many nieces and
nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents,
one brother, five sisters and daughter Sheila.

Bernadine “Bernie” R. Alm,92, of
Lincoln passed away June 21, 2019 at St. John’s
Hospital, Springfield. Bernadine was born August 11,
1926 in Hartsburg, to Otto and Emma Krusemark
Growth. Bernadine and Don were married February 17,
1950 and were together 69 years. Bernie was a
homemaker, babysitter for several of her nieces and
nephews and a great saleslady before retirement. She
loved children and her many nieces and nephews were
very special to her. Bernie was the last of her
immediate family. She was preceded in death by her
parents, daughter Sheila, two brothers, two sisters,
and her husband Don.
Services for Don and Bernie will be held at 10:00
a.m. Thursday June 27, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church
in New Holland, with Reverend Charles Olander
officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior
(9:00-10:00 a.m.) also at the church. Burial will be
in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln, with full military rites
accorded by the American Legion Post # 263.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, New
Holland.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
