Heartland Community College has named the first
head coach to direct the school’s Men’s and Women’s Cross
Country programs.
Ty Wolf, Ed.D., has accepted the Head Coach position for both
the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams.
Cross Country will be joined by Men’s Golf and Women’s
Volleyball as new sports added the Heartland Athletics
department in 2020.
Wolf has served as Head Cross Country/Assistant Track and Field
coach for Quincy High School, Western Illinois University and
Parkland College. He most recently served as a volunteer
assistant for the Heyworth High School Boys/Girls Cross Country
teams.
During his running career as a student at the University of
Illinois, Wolf was a NCAA Division I All-American, five-time
All-Big Ten Conference, and the U of I school record-holder at
3000-meters in track and 8000-meters in cross country.
“Ty embodies everything you look for in a coach to start up a
program. Not only has he built successful new programs
previously, he’s competed at the highest collegiate levels as an
all-American,” said Athletics Director Ryan Knox. “He is in a
great position to take advantage of the extensive local talent
we have in our district.”
During his 34-yerar career as an educator, Wolf served as a
school superintendent at Illinois State University Laboratory
Schools and Heyworth Community Unit School District 4 schools as
well as serving as a grade school and junior-senior high school
principal.
“We have an outstanding local running community with talented
runners and successful high school coaches. The Heartland cross
country program will be a good option for students wanting to
continue to grow and progress to the next level with their
running and education,” said Wolf. “I’m looking forward to
building a cross country program at Heartland Community College
that can be competitive at the regional and national levels.”
The four new sports programs will begin competition in the Fall
semester of 2020, joining the already-established sports of
Baseball, Softball and Men’s and Women’s Soccer. |
