Under the Housing Preservation Grant Program,
USDA does not provide funding directly to homeowners. Instead,
the sponsoring organization receiving the grant helps to repair
housing for low-income rural residents. Rental property owners
may also receive assistance with rehabilitating housing
complexes if they agree to make the repaired units available to
low-income families.
Housing Preservation Grants may be used to resolve health or
safety issues, improve accessibility, or make energy efficiency
improvements to lower utility costs.
Town and county governments, public agencies,
federally-recognized tribes, nonprofits, and faith-based
organizations are eligible to apply.
Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 8,
2019. In Illinois, applications should be submitted to the USDA
Rural Development state office:
