The series of concerts ended with the third annual swing dance,
which got some of the audience dancing to music from the big band
era.
The talented band played a variety of new and old music over the
past weeks, performing sets consisting of approximately 12 songs.
June 9, they performed songs from musicals such as “Mary Poppins”
and “Cabaret.” June 16, the band was “Going Places” as they played
the theme from “Star Wars” and “Up, Up, and Away.” June 23, they
performed songs from modern women composers that included the theme
from “Dr. Who.” June 30 was a celebration of America with patriotic
songs like “America the Beautiful” and “Stars and Stripes.”

The songs at the final concert July 7 included “Don’t
Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “Jump, Jive and Wail.”
To keep people refreshed in the summer weather, the Lincoln Women’s
Club also sold cake and ice cream at each concert.
There will be more chances to hear talented local musicians perform
in upcoming months as the LAMS orchestra, directed by LAMS summer
band member Julie Kasa, will begin rehearsals in October for their
concert in December. The LAMS chorus directed by Tim Searby will
also begin rehearsing soon.
The band is thankful to the many sponsors and supporters that make
these performances possible.
