			First
			Presbyterian Calendar for July

			FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
			301 Pekin St., Lincoln
			PULLED PORK BARBEQUE
			JULY 17
First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln continues to
mark the 3rd Wednesday in July as the day they welcome the community
into their fellowship hall for their once-a-year Pulled Pork
Barbeque Dinner, proceeds of which come right back to benefit local
missions. This year is no different as church volunteers are busy
making plans for the 39th year of this annual event to be held on
Wednesday, July 17 at the church located on the corner of Pekin and
Ottawa Streets. The menu again includes a pulled pork sandwich, slaw
or applesauce, chips, a drink and a homemade dessert with ice cream.
Tickets are available in advance at a discounted rate. They may also
be purchased at the door that evening. Children 6 and under may eat
free if they dine in. The event runs from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
With approximately 900 meals served each year, the church provides
patrons with the choice of dining in the air-conditioned fellowship
hall, gathering at tables outside in a tent where live entertainment
will be provided, or taking advantage of carryout service.

Carryout dinners are available from the Ottawa Street door of the
church building. The 300 block of Ottawa Street will be one way
headed south and the alley behind the church will be designated as
one way headed east between the hours of 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to
			better facilitate carryout traffic.

This event is the major fundraiser for First Presbyterian’s local
mission activities with every penny being returned to Lincoln &
			Logan County.

A significant portion of the proceeds from the BBQ funds programs
that benefit youth in Lincoln. A free 2019 summer program for 6th
through 8th graders created by the church, entitled ”The Center for
Creativity & Community,” provides a place for youth to explore their
creativity and strengthen their connections within and with others.
The church also created the local Food for Thought Program which
provides weekend food bags for participating students at a local
elementary school. Church volunteers shop for non-perishable food
items and pack 100 bags every week during the school year. The bags
are delivered to the schools on Thursday and school personnel drop
them in student backpacks without calling attention to the
recipients. In a survey, participating parents responded
enthusiastically to the additional food for the weekend.

Other local mission projects include Coats for Kids, a Santa’s
workshop for Community Action’s Head Start program and the Christian
Childcare preschoolers, the Logan County Food Pantry, and a free
garage sale that provides clothing, bedding, toys and household
items for those in need in our community.

			For more information, call 732-6141.

WHAT MAKES US WHO WE ARE?:
			AN ECUMENICAL CONVERSATION What happens
when a Roman Catholic Priest, an Episcopalian priest, a United
Church of Christ pastor, and a Presbyterian pastor get together? We
aren't sure either, but we're going to find out, and you're invited,
			too! As a way to
get to know better our neighbors, the clergy of the First
Presbyterian Church (USA), the Holy Family Catholic Church, the St.
John United Church of Christ, and the Trinity Episcopal Church
invite you to attend a four-part conversation in community. The
title of this series will be: "What Makes Us Who We Are?" While it is
easy to recognize all the ways we are different, these conversations
aim to help us discover all the ways we are already similar and
share common interests and characteristics. This will be a time of
learning and laughter, and each discussion will conclude with light
refreshments - a feature sure to be the first thing that binds us in
			common. The dates
for these lively (and informative) conversations will be:
			WEDNESDAY, JULY 10TH
			Trinity Episcopal Church
			WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14TH
			Holy Family Catholic Church Each
conversation begins at 7:00 pm and is free to everyone.

Calling all GOOD NEWS alumni and sponsors! We are so
excited to announce the 50th year of GOOD NEWS will be celebrated
with a reunion and concert, May 23–24, 2020! We will rehearse on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with the big reunion concert at 6:00

hear from the current Good News and T.R.A.S.H. This will be a blast!
			Please plan to join us!

GOOD NEWS PUBLISHING COMPANY began in 1971. Created from the Youth
Choir of Lincoln Christian Church, Keith Davenport added the
dimension of touring with the “Good News” of Jesus. There have been
close to 1,000 students who have been in GOOD NEWS over the last 50
years, (we are still counting!) with hundreds of dedicated sponsors
who have traveled with our students.

GOOD NEWS has shared the Good News of Jesus Christ in concerts in 43
states and Canada. On our 2019 tour next week we add #41 (Utah), #42
			(Montana) and #43 (North Dakota).

GOOD NEWS alumni and sponsors (and parents!), we have created
several ways for you to stay in contact to receive all of the
			information about the Reunion Concert.

To update your contact information, register for the Reunion
Concert, send e-invites to fellow GOOD NEWSers, share photos (we
need your photos, especially the formal group shots), videos, and
stories, and once you have registered to sing in the Reunion
Concert, receive a link to download the concert music, go to:
www.lincolnchristianchurch.org/GN50 , Check social media (Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter) with #GoodNews50, email us at GN50@lincolnchristianchurch.org.

Join us in May 2020 to celebrate the legacy and continued ministry
of GOOD NEWS! We can’t wait to see all of you gathered together to
once again proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in song!
