Twice Post 263’s senior team played Friday to
kick off their participation in the Minnesota Gopher Tournament.
Twice they fell behind early, rallied to within a run, only to
see the game slip away the next inning.
First, Post 263 lost to Harrisburg (South Dakota), 10 to 5. A
five-run fifth by Post 263 almost negated the 6 to 0 lead
Harrisburg built in the first three innings, but the team from
South Dakota responded with a four-run sixth to put the game out
of reach.
Each of the first seven batters in Post 263’s lineup had at
least one hit. Keagan Ferguson doubled and had two RBI, while
Brenden Eigenbrod and Chad Saner, Jr. each had two hits.
Post 263’s second game, against Wayzata (Plymouth, Minnesota),
was also much closer than the final score, 5 to 1, indicated.
Wayzata scored once in each the first and fifth. But Post 263
got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, when Colton Holliday
doubled and later scored on a Wayzata error.
However, Post 263 then allowed three runs in the top of the
seventh as Wayzata sealed the win.
Post 263 will play three more games this weekend. They play
Farmington (Minnesota) at 4 p.m. and Maple Grove (Minnesota) at
7 p.m. on Saturday. Then, it’s Eastview (Apple Valley,
Minnesota) at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
