Cubs reliever Steve Cishek (3-5) earned the victory after
pitching a scoreless 10th. Cishek was one of four relievers who
followed starter Alec Mills, who allowed three runs in six
innings in his season debut.
Eugenio Suarez homered in a losing effort for Cincinnati, which
dropped to 3-6 in extra-inning games this season.
Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani allowed three runs in 5 2/3
innings. Four relievers combined to throw 3 2/3 scoreless
innings before Schwarber went deep against Iglesias.
A two-out rally allowed Cincinnati to jump to a 3-0 lead in the
first inning.
Suarez started the outburst with a solo home run, his
team-leading 23rd, over the wall in center field. Mills then
plunked Yasiel Puig and Derek Dietrich in back-to-back plate
appearances to put runners on first and second.
Nick Senzel singled to left field to score Puig. Moments later,
Jose Peraza doubled to deep center to score Dietrich.
The Cubs pulled within 3-2 in the second. Rizzo led off with a
single and scored on a two-run blast by Garcia -- his third
homer in nine games since making his big-league debut July 3
against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bryant evened the score at 3 when he lofted an inside fastball
into the left field bleachers with two outs in the sixth. The
blast, which was Bryant's 19th, marked the end of DeSclafani's
night after 87 pitches.
Veteran catcher Martin Maldonado went 0-for-4 one day after the
Cubs acquired him from the Kansas City Royals for left-hander
Mike Montgomery.
