			  Heartland Community College Associate
Professor Susan Carl has received a 2019 Nurse Educator Fellowship,
awarded by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) and the
Illinois Nursing Workforce Center (INWC) Advisory Board. |

            | Carl, MSN, RN, is one of nineteen recipients of the
2019 fellowship, which is funded by the state. Recipients of the
Nurse Education Fellowship are awarded $10,000 to help promote
excellence in nursing education. Carl is using the award to pursue
			her Nurse Practitioner certification.
“I have been working toward my post-masters Family Nurse
Practitioner Certificate (FNP-C) for a little over a year now. With
this fellowship I was able to quit my second job and focus more on
teaching nursing at Heartland,” said Carl. “This is a very special
honor I have received from the Illinois Board of Higher Education. I
			am truly humbled and grateful.”

The Fellowship was established to help provide resources to train
more highly-skilled nurses in Illinois by retaining qualified
			faculty.

“We are grateful to state lawmakers, who funded this program in
recognition of the many benefits it provides to the educators, their colleges
and universities, and their students,” said Nyle Robinson, interim executive
director of IBHE. “The list of projects, research, and plans for additional
degrees and certifications that this group is pursuing is beyond impressive.”
The Heartland Community College Nursing program is accredited by the
Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Admission is
selective, and is offered annually to new students who qualify. Advanced
Placement is also available for Licensed Practical Nurses.
