Kevin Zinser, who owns KZ’s Auto Body in downtown
Emden, has lived in Emden all his life and enjoys both the parade
and the music.
Lifetime Emden resident John Cross has been coming to homecoming all
his life and said it is great to see those he grew up and went to
school with come back to visit.
Two-year-old Parker likes the bounce houses.
Friday evening’s activities included the annual chicken supper
hosted by the Hartem FFA, which is a big draw that brings in people
from around the area.
Both Friday and Saturday, there were concessions, music by the Adam
Webb Band, inflatables, a rock-climbing wall, a ring toss and a
bingo game with cash prizes.
Saturday’s homecoming parade had around 30 entries and people lined
the streets of Emden to watch the parade.
The theme was “Let Freedom Ring” and several floats
were decorated to represent this theme.
On one especially patriotic float was someone dressed as the Statue
of Liberty surrounded by children in red, white and blue outfits.
Other floats had flags or red, white and blue banners.

Leading the parade was a Color Guard made up of members of the
American Legion followed by this year’s Grand Marshall, long-time
Emden resident Cheryl Baker.
Logan County Fair Queen Molly Schempp and Little Miss Logan County
Kylee Fulk rode in the last of many parades for the year before they
crown new fair royalty on July 30.
Other entries included local businesses, a variety of tractors,
antique cars, fire trucks and gators.
Many children watching the parade caught handfuls of candy thrown by
those in the parade and said they loved the candy and seeing the
tractors, fire trucks and horses.
As always, the Emden homecoming weekend provided summer fun for the
whole family.
