Helping people who cannot do for themselves is the sign of a caring
person but it’s an especially appreciated trait in healthcare
professionals. Recently an individual with special needs was
admitted to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and they were very
upset and crying about wanting a new shirt. It became a source of
despair for the patient. Respiratory therapist Melanie Crowder
promptly stepped into action. She searched the hospital for a new
shirt and brought it to the patient to calm them down and it allowed
for better care.
On July 8, Crowder was named the July Colleague of the Month to
recognize her consistent efforts to provide high quality care and do
more than expected. She was nominated by a colleague and selected by
the Colleague Activity Committee for the honor. A surprise reception
was held in her honor.
Crowder of Springfield has worked at ALMH for six years. She works
in the cardiopulmonary and pulmonary rehabilitation departments. She
enjoys the variety in her work including time spent in acute care,
the emergency department, and with outpatient services. Crowder
holds an associate’s degree in allied health and has been in the
medical field for 23 years.
