Preserving local and homegrown fruits and vegetables by canning is a
great way to preserve produce at peak quality and save money. If your
pressure canner dial gauge is inaccurate, canned foods may not be
properly heated to kill off harmful bacteria and other organisms. To
ensure safety in the home canning process, pressure canners should be
tested every year.

University of Illinois Extension invites you be safe by providing
free pressure canner testing at your local Extension office. Sign-up
for a time to have your pressure canner dial gauge(s) tested on June
14 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sangamon County Extension
Office, 700 S. Airport Drive, Springfield by calling 217.782.4617.
For those unable to attend in-person, please drop off the equipment
before June 14 at the Sangamon County Extension Office; the Menard
County Extension Office on Monday and Wednesday only at 420 S. 7th
St., Petersburg; or the Logan County Extension Office at 980 N.
Postville Dr., Lincoln.

The tested canner(s) can be picked up at a later date.
