announces schedule for Saturday, June 15th event
Cameron Kurtz to be Emcee, Ruth Gordon and
the family of Dale Lessen to be Honorary Chairs

LINCOLN
- The Logan County Relay for Life will host its annual Relay Day on
Saturday, June 15th. The event will kick off with a ribbon cutting
ceremony at 1 p.m. The event will last from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. with
special events, laps, and activities taking place throughout the
afternoon and evening.

Returning this year as the Master of Ceremonies for
the event will be Cameron Kurtz. Honorary Chair Persons will be Ruth
Gordon and ‘In Memorium” Honorary Chair the late Dale Lessen. Mr.
Lessen will be represented by members of his family.
This year the day is themed “Cancer: not here, not there, not
anywhere’ and is modeled from the writings of famous children’s book
author Dr. Seuss.
The opening ceremony at 1 p.m. will include the introduction of
teams as well as the official introduction of the Honorary Chairs,
who will then lead off the first lab of the day.
Carnations donated by Bee’s Floral and Landscaping, Devvies Downtown
Floral and Forget Me Not Floral will be presented to all survivors
at the start of the Survivor’s Lap.
The laps around the gymnasium inside the Jack Nutt Arena at Lincoln
Center will be based on Dr. Suess Books and the schedule will be as
follows:

2:00-3:00 p.m. Walk theme: Vacation/”Oh the
places you will go” (vacation garb)

3:00-4:00 p.m. “How the Grinch stole Christmas”
(holiday dress)
-
4:00-5:00 p.m. “Hop On Pop” (dress in ‘father
figure dress’)
-
5:00-6:00 p.m. “Cat in the Hat” (wear favorite
hat)
-
6:00-7:00 p.m. “Put me in the zoo” (wear an
animal print shirt/etc)
-
7:00-8:00 p.m. “Wacky Wednesday (wear a wacky
outfit)
-
8:00-9:00 p.m. “Fox In Socks” (wear crazy,
mismatched etc socks)
At 9 p.m. the Luminary laps will take place. The
laps should be made in silence and the names of the luminaria
remembrances will be read aloud. Walkers are also invited and
encouraged to wear or carry an object that reminds them of their
loved one.
The final laps of the day from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. will be “Sleep
Book”and participants are encouraged to wear their pajamas or a
robe.

The day will conclude at 11 p.m. with the traditional
release of balloons and a closing prayer.
Other special events or activities scheduled throughout the
afternoon and evening include:

4 p.m. - Daughters of the King

6 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Live Auction with Dan Naughton
as Auctioneer

8 p.m. - Zumba with Bethany
Silent auction items will be on display throughout
the day with the bidding closing at 8 p.m.
Luminaria can be purchased throughout the day with sales stopping at
8:50 p.m.
A buffet meal prepared by Lincoln College will be available from 1
p.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Cost of the meal is $8.00.
The college is donating the meal so that proceeds will go to Relay
for Life.
At 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m. Pizza will be delivered and offered
for sale.
