[June 18, 2019]  The Fitness Court on Eighth Street in Lincoln has achieved several firsts in the time it has been available. It is the first Fitness Court in Illinois, and now it has presented the first training program for teen Fitness Court ambassadors in the country.

Fitness Courts are located throughout the United States. The courts provide a range of exercise equipment to do a total body workout. Ambassadors are available to help those new to the Fitness Court concept develop a personal workout routine.

The seven stations on the court can be used for multiple exercises, and it helps to have a knowledgeable guide explain how best to use it. “In the time it has been open, almost sixty persons have volunteered to become ambassadors,” said Angie Whiteman from ALMH, and an ambassador trainer.

Tuesday morning was the first training session for teen ambassadors in Lincoln; more distinctively, it was the first training program in the U.S. for teen ambassadors.

Angela Stoltzenburg (L) and Angie Whiteman (R) of the ALMH Community Health Collaborative provided the ambassador training for the teens Tuesday morning.

Angie Whiteman and Angela Stoltzenburg of the ALMH Community Health Collaborative provided training for Taylor, Hattie and Brooke, who now will pass their knowledge on to those new to the Fitness Court. The Fitness Court is for those at least fourteen years old. “We are here for anyone from fourteen to one hundred fourteen to get a great workout,” laughed Stoltzenburg.

In addition to ambassadors, National Fitness Court has an app that also can help develop a workout routine. It has the location of all Fitness Courts, a coach, and even music to add to the enjoyment of an outdoor workout. The app can also be used to challenge others from across the country to a court workout contest. Lori Birnbaum of Lincoln is in sixth place for the national challenge.

The Fitness Court has all sorts of possibilities. Lincoln College has expressed interest in using it for a workout for the soccer team. Lincoln schools are talking about using it for their sports teams also.
